Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique combines manipulation with movement to treat soft tissues. ART targets and isolates the affected area to break up scar tissue, promoting blood flow and faster healing of injuries.  ART can be used to treat headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, sciatica, TMJ, tendonitis and more.

Temporomandibular Dysfunction(TMD)

You may be more familiar with this type of pain being referred to as “TMJ,” but this is not quite correct. TMJ actually stands for “temporomandibular joint,” which simply refers to the joint that is located just in front of the ear on either side of your face. When you have jaw pain, it often stems from a dysfunction of this joint. This is why it is called “temporomandibular dysfunction” or TMD.

Anyone of any age can deal with TMD issues, but they commonly begin after specific incidents such as car accidents, oral surgery or jaw injury. In some people, TMD symptoms may creep up gradually without an isolated trigger. This is especially true for people who clench their jaws or grind their teeth.

Most TMD conditions can be completely resolved, but others may require ongoing management. The best way to begin treating TMD is by visiting a massage therapist in New Westminster.

Visceral Manipulation

Visceral manipulation may sound intense, but it is actually a gentle and well-tolerated form of massage therapy. The term “visceral” is used to describe the internal organs and tissues within the body. Visceral manipulation involves gentle compression and mobilization of these soft tissues in specific ways in order to treat a wide variety of issues.

It is ideal for recurring musculoskeletal pain and problems such as headaches, scar tissue and sciatica.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy should only be performed by a trained health professional such as a Registered Massage Therapist. It’s important to only entrust your body to a licensed and experienced massage therapist because craniosacral therapy involves applying gentle pressure and manipulation to your skull, spine and pelvis.

These delicate areas can be treated in a way that improves the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid. In turn, this can help to alleviate pain and movement restriction caused by migraines, chronic neck pain, TMD issues and recurring tension disorders.

Infant Massage Lessons (0-9 mos)

There are many benefits to parents performing gentle massage techniques on their babies, but it is important to get proper instruction from a licensed massage therapist in New Westminster.

Not only is skin-to-skin contact vital for developing healthy parent-child bonds and a sense of love and security, but massage therapy can help to relax an anxious baby, soothe painful colic pains and help parents feel more closely connected to their child.

Infant massage lessons are booked privately with New Westminster RMT Jeanie Bezdan. Jeanie will demonstrate proper massage techniques on a doll and guide parents through performing the massage on their own baby.

Two one-hour sessions will be required, and we request that you bring an edible oil along with extra diapers and cloths for each session.

IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization)

This is the use of an instrument as a manual therapy technique that when combined with rehabilitative exercises improves musculoskeletal function.
Indications include scar tissue adhesions (post surgical or traumatic), ligament sprains (MCL/LCL AC sprain), tendinopathy (ie: achilles or patellar tendinopathy), fascial syndromes (ie: plantar fasciitis), nerve entrapment syndromes (ie: carpal tunnel, thoracic outlet syndrome).
